Snow had a storeroom. But was it good that I went there? Some doors you won’t open until the hurricanes of curiosity make you.  Once the protective armor of innocence, soft as it wears, comes off , you won’t race ahead like you used to. I remember soaring the gardens of many birds.  They were the first layer.  I swung the vines, and climbed every skycraping limb.  That was the second layer.  I spoke with the tikis and the canaries.  I spied out the glittering lands inside.  Through gleaming crystal leaves, as the temperature dropped, I devoured with my eyes

/////////////////\\\\\\//////////\\\\\/////////////// /////////////\\\\\\\\\//////////////////\\\\\/////// How Would You Make The Call ©-MFB III-The 9/11 CHRONICLES-2001   It was the window or the 1000’s of degrees of heat melting the nylon stockings to her legs her dress bursting into tiny blue flames and her hair reeking as it crisped beyond any curling iron damage she’d ever known. THE DEPUTY OF ALLENTOWN

THE DEPUTY OF ALLENTOWN I was resting my old bones, watching from the window when all hell broke loose out on the boardwalk. Now I might be guessing as to what I thought the deputy would do, but I’ve known him for eleven years … once even wore the same badge … so I watched him do just what I thought he would do —  I saw him run for cover. HIS GIVEN NAME WAS DAVID. They called him Deputy Dave now, which sounds kind of silly but it’s much better than the nickname he grew up with. Born the runt

The Jack Attack

Sure it was Halloween, but things like ghosts never scared me before. I just assumed they were nothing more than stories or glitches of the mind. But there it was floating a few feet from me, and the malevolent face carved into it was my own doing. I always felt jack-o-lanterns looked much too child-friendly, so I made mine sinister with jagged rows of teeth, a v-shaped brow, and eyes that appeared to be forever blazing with hatred. The trick-or-treaters had gone home. Most jack-o-lanterns had either been extinguished or went out of their own accord. But not mine. Mine
